Sarah’s
House (1985) was my first house so I wanted to cover
all aspects of design including Plumbing, Electrical and especially
a sensitivity to the site itself. There had been a previous
building on the site that was no longer there. My main interest
design wise was to make a structure, which would represent
the occupants who were a couple. The house has two main support
poles (see design page) representing the two individuals.
The design is also a combination of Eastern and Western culture.
The kitchen area representing western civilization has tiny
pane windows making tiny straw-like light, and, the larger
room has Rothko-like lozenges of light from large equitable
windows, open space, spare furnishings, an Eastern wall of
books. If you look at the interior section drawing, you will
see a figure in the kitchen and the two shapes conjoining.
